Iceman by John Constable, directed by Philip Graham. White Bear Theatre Club, Kennington, Nov 1997. John Constable's Iceman was runner up in the prestigious Verity Bargate award for new writing. It is a labyrinthine tale of surveillance and corruption as Buzz and Alice, two undercover police officers, try to set up a dealer known only as the Iceman. At first it seems that Crowe, their contact in the deal, is simply the Iceman's messenger, then he could be the Iceman himself and finally it becomes obvious that no one can really tell the cops from the criminals. Crowe is revealed both as the criminal mastermind and a policeman in deep cover pursuing the Iceman with a desperate paranoia. This extraordinary denouement is finally reached through drugs, camera trickery and a hefty dose of Central American shamanism. Eammon Collinge played Crowe, Lyn Christine was Alice and Buzz was played by Rob Crouch. Iceman ran at The White Bear Theatre Club in Kennington, London, from 21 October to 9 November 1997.
